    - Notes provided by Paramount Pictures. - In 1995, everyone had a VCR, music was sold in record stores and the world-wide-web was a new found discovery. Businessman Jack Harris (LUKE WILSON) had the perfect life - a beautiful family and a successful career fixing problem companies. Jerry Haggerty (JAMES CAAN), a lawyer who knows of Jack's stellar reputation as a 'fix-it' guy, asks him to help Wayne Beering (GIOVANNI RIBISI) and Buck Dolby (GABRIEL MACHT), two genius but troubled men who have figured a way to make money on the Internet. Yet, when Wayne and Buck start making millions of dollars within months, they also attract a whirlwind of troubles and are at the mercy of Jack to help them survive. Having agreed to help steer their business and completely unaware of the disaster that lies ahead, Jack soon finds himself caught between a 23 year-old porn star and the FBI, all the while becoming one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs of his time. The three men, an unlikely trio, are now the 'middle men' in a story inspired by true events that proves business is a lot like sex... getting in is easy, pulling out is hard. Paramount Pictures and Mallick Media present an Oxymoron Entertainment Production, in association with Blue Star Entertainment, a George Gallo Film starring Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi, Gabriel Macht, Jacinda Barrett, Laura Ramsey, Terry Crews, Rade Sherbedgia, with Kevin Pollak and James Caan. The producers are Christopher Mallick, William Sherak, Jason Shuman and Michael J. Weiss. The film is written by George Gallo & Andy Weiss. The cinematographer is Lukas Ettlin (Fanboys, Shrink). The production designer is Bob Ziembicki (Boogie Nights, Superhero Movie) who reteams with Director George Gallo for a sixth time. Malcolm Campbell (Shanghai Knights), who previously worked with George Gallo on Double Take and Local Color, serves as editor of the film. The costume designer is twice Oscar-nominated Sharen Davis (Dreamgirls, Ray). The music is composed by Brian Tyler, and Tricia Holloway (I Hate Valentine's Day) is the music supervisor. This film has been rated R for strong sexual content, nudity, language, drug use and violence. THE BEGINNING The story of Middle Men is inspired by producer Christopher Mallick's own experiences from the late 1990s through the early 2000s when he found himself part of the burgeoning Internet. Mallick admits, ``Though this story is highly fictionalized, it reveals a section of how my life was shaped when the Internet began as a new means of commerce. This movie touches upon an industry that grew faster than anyone would've ever imagined. It was literally the 'Wild West' electronically - there were no rules; we were making up the rules as we went. There was more money than anyone ever imagined. As for the term 'Middle Men,' he offers, ``These are the guys that you don't see in the Internet business. There is a similar corollary within other industries - like the phone company - where you don't think of all those people it takes to connect your phone to my phone. It's those people that are hidden behind-the-scenes that we refer to as the 'middle men'. As for its characters, Mallick clarifies, ``This is about real people, but they are not based on anyone specifically; they're composites of various people I've encountered throughout my life as well as some wholly created characters George Gallo (Director/Co-Writer) and Andy Weiss (Co-Executive Producer/Co-Writer) conceived. The original plan was to take the concept of 'Middle Men' and create a television series with HBO as the first contender. Mallick hired writer Andy Weiss of Punk'd, to write the pilot. Weiss remembers, ``Three years ago, Chris Mallick approached me to write about his time at the start of Internet billing. It was about uncovering a big business that everyone knows, but no one talks about - all the craziness and how it unraveled. He continues, ``At that same time, I was working with Writer George Gallo on another project and that's when it dawned on me that maybe we could collaborate together on Middle Men. Director/Co-Writer George Gallo, who is revered for penning Midnight Run and Bad Boys, as well as directing 29th Street, among others, says, ``When Andy first told me about Middle Men, I immediately felt an electrifying story, an amazing tale. Then he told me how he thought it could be told in a 'Rashomon-way' - using other people's viewpoints to tell one person's story - that's when I knew I wanted to direct it. It's a 'tour-de-force' for a director. I've been waiting to do this for 20 years! Producer Christopher Mallick worked closely with Weiss and Gallo as they rewrote the television series idea into a feature film. Mallick remembers, ``The direction I gave to Andy and George is that this story is about adult entertainment the same way Wall Street is about buying and selling stocks. Just as that movie is about the personalities of the stockbrokers, this movie is not 'about' porn; it is about people, redemption, greed - many things! COMPLETING THE TEAM For Oxymoron Entertainment's first feature film, owner Christopher Malllick partnered with others who would help bring his story to the big screen. Co-Writer/Co-Executive Producer Andy Weiss introduced Mallick to his brother, Michael J. Weiss, an entertainment lawyer who joined as a producer. Weiss is also responsible for introducing Mallick to Producers Jason Shuman and William Sherak of Blue Star Entertainment, who produced last year's Bangkok Dangerous and the hit comedy, Role Models. Producer Shuman explains, ``William and I love great story-telling. This screenplay was extraordinarily well written. It just popped off the page and knowing that this was partially Chris' story, based in truth, made it all the more attractive. Producer William Sherak agrees, ``Jason and I like scripts that tell human stories. The thing that Middle Men does the best is it takes normal people and throws them in an environment that is cinematic, big and beyond what normal people experience. That's what makes it fun for us to be involved. THREE TO DIE FOR: CASTING THE 'MIDDLE MEN' Luke Wilson, whom many know from films such as Old School, Home Fries, Legally Blonde and Idiocracy, plays the lead character, 'Jack Harris.' As to his initial reaction to the story, ``It always struck me from the start when I read the script that it would be a fun movie to watch. Whether I was fifteen, my age or my dad's age, this is something kind of different that we haven't seen before. As for the two drug-addicted 'Middle Men' whom Luke Wilson's character gets involved with, the part of 'Wayne Beering' landed into the lap of Giovanni Ribisi, while the role of 'Buck Dolby' was taken by Gabriel Macht. Gabriel Macht, who stars in The Spirit, admits, ``I knew that this would be a wild ride in creating the character. Giovanni Ribisi also had great appreciation for his co-stars and said, ``In this movie, Luke is better than I have ever seen him. There is all this chaos going on around him, especially with me and Gabriel, but he's the calm in the storm - the guy who sort of made sense of it all. The sentiment was quite the same as Luke remembers, ``They're both really good actors and it was fun for me. It was like playing sports with someone better than you, which kind of validates your game to work with people that are really good like Giovanni and Gabriel. The producers realized they had something very special with this trio and Director/Co-Writer George Gallo agrees having said, ``These guys reached for places that are rare. They worked without filters and came up with some brilliant character traits which add to the fabric of the film. SUPPORTING THE 'MIDDLE MEN' Though the movie focuses primarily on this odd trio of partners in a business that few admit exists, Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi and Gabriel Macht were supported by a great cast of character actors; Jacinda Barrett, Laura Ramsey, Terry Crews, Rade Sherbedgia, with Kevin Pollak and James Caan. James Caan, whose career spans over three decades including starring in Luke Wilson's first film Bottle Rocket as well as such classics as The Godfather and Brian's Song, plays the crooked lawyer, 'Jerry Haggerty.' He admits, ``This movie is about a bunch of bad people and I play the worst. Kevin Pollak, who plays FBI Agent 'Curt Allmans,' offers, ``I've known George Gallo since I appeared in The Whole Ten Yards, so when he gave me this script, which is hilarious in that Midnight Run sort of way, I jumped aboard. In addition to the above, cameo appearances were made by Robert Forster as 'Louie La La,' a Chicago wise guy who mentors Luke Wilson's character during his younger days, and Kelsey Grammer as 'Frank Griffin,' the District Attorney, who suspects 'Jack' of foul play in running his Internet billing business. Jason Antoon, who was last seen in Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock, has a larger part as 'Denny Z,' a nefarious adult entetainment producer. THE END PRODUCT Producer William Sherak believes, at the heart of the film, ``It's a character piece about a group of people who created something truly remarkable in their lives and then had to deal with the consequences of the choices they made. James Caan added, ``There's a subtle, honest story behind it all. It's a morality tale in a very immoral way. Giovanni Ribisi relates, ``It was constant collaboration and building on each other's ideas while we were making this movie. It was a freeing experience for me. Director/Co-Writer George Gallo admits, ``What I love about this story is that it's about utter chaos, bizarre characters and people with no filters. It follows your classic hero who wants to do the right thing, but gets trapped in a situation that he has to little by little think his way out of, under insurmountable odds. He continues, ``This could happen to anybody in today's world. If anybody is honest with themselves, they would've made the same decisions that 'Jack' made if they were given the same opportunity. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION The story of Middle Men is inspired by Producer Christopher Mallick's own experiences fromthe late 1990s through the early 2000s.
